Reclaimed Herringbone Parquet

Following a flood to the 16th century cottage on Christmas Eve, we were asked to replicate the original Reclaimed Herringbone Parquet floor that was ruined.

Using salvaged blocks for dimensions, we selected from our stock of Reclaimed Oak floorboards to machine blocks to the same size to complete the damaged floor and extend through to other rooms on the ground floor. Working closely with the clients’ main contractor, insurance assessor and the client directly we advised on subfloor preparation and the ‘tanking’ work required giving the floor protection from possible water damage.

The Herringbone Parquet was laid with the same Reclaimed Oak used to border the rooms, blocks were dry laid before being bonded to the primed screed using a flexible flooring adhesive to allow for seasonal movement expected.

The floor was filled and sympathetically hand-sanded before being finished with three coats of a natural hardwax oil, giving the floor a good level of protection whilst also being a natural, nourishing product for the oak in the long term.
